Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, far left, supervises as local authorities escort Dewey Odell Hopper, Jr., 42, back into the local justice center where he previously escaped from on Saturday, May 31. Hopper is an alledged rapist who has past felony offenses in both Missouri and Arkansas.

Dunklin County authorities, under the direction of Sheriff Bob Holder, recently located and apprehended an alledged rapist and felony offender hiding under a couch in the living room of a Cardwell, Mo., home.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Dewey Odell Hopper, Jr., 42, an inmate who escaped from the Dunklin County Justice Center on Saturday, May 31, was hiding out at a residence in Cardwell.

The information was turned over to the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office from the Cardwell Police Department.

Holder and Dunklin County deputies responded to the tip by traveling from Kennett to the suggested address in Cardwell where they met up with Cardwell police, Arbyrd Police, and a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A search of the residence was conducted and Hopper was located and taken into custody without incident.

At approximately 1 p.m., Wednesday, Hopper was brought back to the same place he absconded from where officers with the Sheriff's Department carefully choreographed Hopper's return, leading him handcuffed in jeans, a T-shirt, and socks through a back door to the jail which was guarded by county authorities.

There he was re-booked, and will face additional charges through the Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney's Office of escape from confinement, a class D felony count.

Prior to his escape, Hopper was originally being held in the Justice Center on charges of forcible rape and tampering with judicial proceedings. He is also a parole absconder from the state of Arkansas, according to Holder.

Past Offenses in Missouri and Arkansas include assault, burglary, weapons violations (including on a Corrections Facility), sex offenses and arson.

Hopper's original bond before his escape was set at $100,000 cash only. On Tuesday, June 3, court documents were altered to reflect no bond available for the at-risk offender who is to appear in court at 9 a.m., Friday, June 6 before Circuit Court Judge John Spielman.

what i have done in life is nothing compared to what he has done im better than that, i dont need to rape and do drugs like he did and does. he will rot in jail. and thats what needs to happen to a low life like him.

I think everyone should look at their selfs and ask themselfs what they have done wrong in there life. cuz there isnt anyone in the world a perfect angel. and another thing this guy is suppost to be innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. why is everyone so eager to jump to a conclusion? Oh thats right all of is charges will he was recently charged with rape, the boy needs for people to just let him be the only reason he has been charged with rape is because of his ex-girlfriend got mad because he broke it off with her. so she thought she would get back at him, with a bogus charge cause if u look at his past u will see its been fights against police not everyday people.

you say "let ye be judged and treated as you would be treated." so he raped someone because thats what he wants done to him, or because it has been done to him. either way he needs help and alot of it. he doesnt need to be in the outside world. ONCE A RAPIST ALWAYS A RAPIST. ONCE A CRACKHEAD ALWAYS A CRACKHEAD. and their is nothing anyone from the outside can do to help him change.

Good point on the bible!!

OK, lets say he's found innocent, let him go I'm sorry about the rope comment.

If he's found guilty, Life in prison, no change for release since he is a repeat offender, sex offender, domestic terrorist, and danger to society.

dewey hopper is my oldest sons dad and just because he has made mistakes in his life doesnt mean that he is a bad person in general. i dont care what yall think about me or about dewey he is still my sons daddy and i will support him until he gives me a reason not too. oh and why wouold i go to church and surround myself with hyprocrits when i can read my bible at home with my kids. by the way doesnt the bible say something about not judging people lest ye be judged and treat others as you would be treated? doesnt sound like you listen to the word of GOD either.

Assault, forcible rape, burglary, sex offenses, arson, weapons charges, tampering with judicial proceedings, and escape. That just about covers the gamut except for attempted murder and murder. And you think this guy is NICE? This is an obvious habitual offender. Note to Gloria, You have a very warped sense of RIGHT and WRONG or either have socialized with these type of people for so long you may be in too deep anyway. My advice is to stay away from people like this Hopper fellow. Go to church and surround your self with people who do good things, that may help you see what nice people are like.

i dont even know who you are but dont come after me, everyone has an opinion and that one is mine. i think buddy is nice. just dont piss him off, but thats true of many people right.

-- Posted by gloriastevens on Sat, Jun 7, 2008, at 2:23 PM

yes i do feel that way buddy has never done anything wrong to me. he has tried to be there for his son and has done the best that he could. if people would give him half the chance they would see he can be a good guy. im sorry about what you went through ive been through the same thing but its in the past its way past time for you to move on. if you dont it will control your life forever. people change you dont know who he is now so whatever.

i think everyone should leave him alone. he is a good guy if you know him. you people just judge him from the accusations he is up against which are bogus anyway. he is my oldest sons dad and i wish him the best of luck. i know he will be found not guilty on the alleged charges of rape since they are untrue. come home and see your boy and stay outta trouble.
