Gladys Louise McGowen, 89, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the Oakdale Care Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born April 2, 1919 in Hazen, Ark., daughter of the late William T. Evans and Altie C. Hudson, she was a homemaker and a member of the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church. She was a R.S.V.P. volunteer.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas E. McGowen and wife, Dorinda, of Poplar Bluff, David R. McGowen and wife, Jackie, of North Carolina and Ralph McGowen and wife, Claudia, of Washington; one brother, Herman Evans, of Kennett; four sisters, Mae Cato, of Poplar Bluff, Pauline Tripp, of Kansas City, Mo., and Dorothy Taylor and Ruth Schanda, both of Arkansas; six grandchildren, Ruth Ann Harwell and Carol Sue Briscoe, both of Poplar Bluff, Michael McGowen and Beth McGowen, both of North Carolina, Jeremy McGowen, of Missouri and Courtney Krupp, of Tennessee; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Briscoe, Jackson McGowen and Mathew Harwell, all of Missouri and Mason McGowen, of North Carolina, and a special friend, Linda Nimon.
She was preceded in death by one son, Melvin McGowen; one daughter, Carolyn Briscoe; two brothers, Bill and Lee Evans and two sisters, Ruby Settlemoir and Frances Evans
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. Keith Luke officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
