James Cecil Barkley, 70, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, May 26, 2008, at his residence.

Born Sept. 5, 1937, in Ripley, Miss., son of the late Berry Washington and Jennie Mae Walker Barkley, he was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Malden.

On Aug. 25, 1962, in Benton Harbor, Mich., he married Esther Monteen Hart, who survives.

Survivors also include two sons, Keith Barkley and wife, Rhonda and Timothy Barkley and wife, Krystal, all of Malden; three daughters, Kathy Bartholomew and husband, Phillip, of Holcomb, Mo., Karen Fanshier, of Clinton, Ark., and Tina Allen and husband, Gary, of Malden; one brother, W.C. Barkley, of Malden; seven sisters, Minnie Croy, of West Virginia, Mary Tiger, of Houston, Texas, Jennieve Thornton, of Hayti, Mo., Dorothy Enis, of Doyline, La., Lou Ward, of Kennett, Sally Bruton, of Holcomb and Brenda McDonald, of Malden; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, George Washington, B.W. and William "Bill" Barkley and three sisters, Frances Hopper, Marie Barkley and Elizabeth Reed.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., today, Wednesday, May 28, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 29, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Young officiating.

Burial will follow in the Rosewood Cemetery at Malden.
