Herman M. Slavings, 69, of Portageville, Mo., died Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born Feb. 26, 1939 at Lone Star, in New Madrid County, Mo., he was the son of the late Sterling and Erabell Haislip Slavings, he was a member of the Hayward Baptist Church.
On June 28, 1962, in Boekerton, Mo., he married Mildred Pettigrew, who survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Bonita Thomas and husband, Fig, of Hayti, Mo.; three sisters, Imagean Watson of Moscow Mills, Mo., Dutch Owens of Foley, Mo., and Carolyn Oates of Saginaw, Mich.; a brother, Danny Slavings, of Norman, Okla.; and a granddaughter, Julicia Bloss, of Marceline, Mo.
Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 24, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti, Mo., with the Rev. David Boyd officiating.
Burial was in the Dry Bayou Cemetery, north of Hayti.
