Christine Brown

On May 10, 2008, Dr. F. Christine Brown passed away in McKinney, Texas.

Ms. Brown was born Oct.13, 1923 in Osceola, Ark,. to E. F. and Clara Brown. Her family later moved to Gideon, Mo., where she was raised. She graduated from Gideon High School, and attended college in Cape Girardeau, Mo., where she received her B.S. Degree in Chemistry. She then attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., where she earned her Masters' Degree in Biochemistry. She then earned her PhD. in Biochemistry from the University of Iowa.

Ms. Brown received a Post Doctoral fellowship to M.D.Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas, where she was involved in cancer research, and presented several papers on her work at the International Convention of Biochemistry in various countries.

Ms. Brown later moved to Memphis, Tenn., where she was a professor of Biochemistry at the University of Tenn., and again involved in research in alcohol and drug abuse. She had a textbook published on drugs during her tenure there.

Ms. Brown had many interests in various sports and was also a pilot and involved with the Ninety Niner Women's' Pilot Organization.

Upon her retirement she moved to Searcy, Ark. to be closer to her family and remained there until her move to McKinney, Texas.

Ms. Brown is survived by her brother, Paul Brown, of Searcy, Ark.; sister in law, Sara Brown, of Florida; brother in law, Gary Grimes, of Arkansas; nieces, Linda Luster (Charles), of St. Louis, Mo., Jill Fairley, of Dallas, Texas; nephews, Brian Brown and Clark Brown (Debbie) of Florida, Andrew Grimes, of Arkansas, and Timothy Grimes (Tracy) of Tennessee, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Ms. Brown was predeceased by her parents, E.F. and Clara Brown; brother, James H. Brown and sister, Claramay Grimes.

Ms. Brown will be sadly missed by her relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements by Landess Funeral Homes Malden, Mo. Funeral is Saturday, May 17, viewing will be at 10 a.m., with graveside services at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eight Ave 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
