According to Michael Tate, with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Smith was nominated by several people who work with the Department's Drinking Water and Water Pollution Control.
"It is with pleasure that I am informing you that Charlie Smith has been chosen to receive this prestigious award," Tate said. " He stands out among operators as being one who does truly care to be the best operator he can be and is a valuable resource to his community."
This award is presented durŽing the annual sectional meetŽing of the Missouri Water and Wastewater Conference. This award is given annually to only one recipient who stands out as an exceptional opera-tor, one who is diligent in their oversight of operational needs for the system which they tend. The recipient is also one who has helped make improvement to the system.
"This award also speaks well of the community for their support of Charlie Smith in the performance of his duties as operator," Tate said.
Mayor John Prince said he very proud to have Smith on board as the overseer of his city's water and wastewater operations. "When your water superintendent is nominated by professionals, it says a lot," Prince said. "Charlie takes pride in what he does.
That's why he is so good at what he does."
