From 10 a.m., to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Cricket Field in Forest Park, doggies and their owners can come together for the largest doggy festival in the Midwest, and more importantly, the Humane Society of Missouri's largest fundraiser.
Proceeds from this event benefit the Dr. Doolittle Fund, which provides veterinary care for homeless animals.
The Bark In The Park fundraiser offers a wide array of fun and entertainment for both the pet and his owner.
The Purina Incredible Dog Team puts on quite a show as they display their talents and precise dog training by catching a flying disc in mid-air during a back flip, or by taking a running leap off a human's back, they are always a crowd pleaser.
This event also gives individuals a chance to show off their pet's cool looks or radical talent. Categories include Best Dressed Canine, Best Pet Stunt/Trick, Best Yodel/Howl, the Best Do-Si-Do/Dog and owner dance, and the fast and fun, Doggie Derbies.
"There is something for every size dog and owner," Jeane Jae, director of communications said, "in fact, there's something for the entire family, as well as the family pet. It's a win-win for everybody."
"Forest Park is just north of Hwy. 40 between Kingshighway and Hampton," Jae said. "It's very accessible and easy to find. "We know there are a lot of dog and animal lovers in Southeast Missouri that would enjoy an outing like this," she said, "a day of outdoor fun for the family and their pet."
Those who wish to attend the pet fair may enter themselves and their pet online at hsmo.org/bark. You may also register the day of the event. There is no fee but since it is a fundraising event, the Humane Society of Missouri asks that participants make a $25 donation for themselves, $5 for children ages 3-12, and children under three will be admitted free of charge.
The only requirement/request the Humane Society of Missouri asks that no dogs under the age of six months be brought to the park. "It would be too hard on dogs that young," Jae said. "We hope to see a lot of people from the Kennett/Bootheel area," Jae said. "It's a worthwhile event and it's for a very deserving cause."
