According to a statement released by Kennett Police Assistant Chief Steve Williams, police responded to an apparent homicide at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, April 27,2008 at 226 W. Ninth Street.

When police arrived at the scene, according to the statement, they were told that family members had found the body an unresponsive female, whose name has not been released as of 7:30 a.m. this morning.

The officers found the woman's body lying in the front room of the house, the apparent victim of a homicide.

The Dunklin County Major Case Squad was called to the scene, along with the Bootheel Drug Task Force, and the Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control to begin an investigation.

The police statement reads, "After gathering evidence at the crime scene, the body of the woman was removed from the scene by the Dunklin County coroner Jack Adkins. An autopsy is scheduled for early this morning."

According to Williams' report, no arrests have been made and the investigation is still under way.
