What many may not realize about Gill is that, in addition to his known list of accomplishments and interests, Gill is also a talented musician who has a true love for the bagpipes.
Recently, Gill, along with several others in the Jonesboro based Northeast Arkansas Caledonia Pipes and Drums group, participated in the Arkansas Scottish Festival held at Lyon College in Batesville, Ark.
Gill's group, merging with the Marine Corps League and Sgt Singleton Pipes and Drums out of Memphis, fielded 16 individuals for two massed bands, along with 6 other bands from Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Additionally, Gill joined three other individuals who competed in solo events against pipers and drummers from several states.
This is the second competition Gill has taken part in.
The Northeast Arkansas Caledonian Pipes and Drums group have in the last year more than tripled the number of players and students, and are looking forward to continuing growth.
Plans include competing as a band in 2009, participating in more parades and other special events.
The band meets weekly from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., on Sunday's at the First Presbyterian Church located at Southwest Drive in Jonesboro.
