HOLCOMB, Mo. -- Holcomb Girl Scout Troop 248 recently presented a "Gift of Love" to the Fresenius Medical Center at Kennett.

Working to earn its Bronze Award, the scout troop decided to do something that would help it earn the Bronze Award and benefit someone else as well.

The scout's leader Kim Shands said the girls came up with the idea of making handmade blankets for dialysis patients to keep them warm during their treatments.

"We are very grateful to have these warm and cozy blankets," Delora Crawford, clinic manager said. "It is very cold in our treatment area and I know our patients will greatly appreciate the thoughtfulness put into this."

Shands said her troop was very eager to donate the blankets. "The girls were very excited because they knew their project would help someone else," she said. "They had a lot of fun doing this," she added.

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest honor a junior girl scout can earn, which requires her to learn the leadership planning skills necessary to follow through on a project while making a positive impact on her community.

"The girls worked toward this award while demonstrating their commitment to helping others, improving their community and the world and by becoming the best they can possibly be," Shands said.

I am so proud of these girls I know that they worked hard on this selfless project.
