Bill Woods, 97, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Friday, March 28, 2008, at his residence.

Born Dec. 21, 1920, in Rockwood Island, Ill., son of the late Jessie and Mariah Stewart Woods, he employed by Anderson Lumber Co., in New Madrid, Mo., Beta-Tipton Box Co., of Caruthersville and Davis Construction of Memphis, Tenn.

In March 1944, he married Ruby Bartlett, who preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2008. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Jim Cheatham and Bill Woods, Jr.; three sisters, Hazel Robinett, Page Staffey and Eve Glodjo; one brother, Arbury Woods and one granddaughter, Debbie Cheatham.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandee Wigginton and husband, Lee; two daughters-in-law, Rose Cheatham and Billie Woods; eight grandchildren, Sybra Leonberger, Bill Woods III, Jessica Albrecht, Tammy, Aaron, Eric and Elise "Kiki" Wigginton and Jim Cheatham, Jr., and 12 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Ella, Maranda, Amanda, Becca, Noah, Alli, Hunter, Abbi, Ashley, William and Nick.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 31, at the H.,S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.

Burial was in the Portageville Cemetery at Portageville, Mo.
