James Smullins, Jr., 73, of Dexter, Mo., died Friday, March 28, 2008, at Dexter.

Born Dec. 13, 1934, in Portageville, Mo., he was the son of the late James Henry and Alta Harper Smullins, Sr.

On Dec. 29, 1951, he married Shirley McTernon, who survives.

Survivors also include one son, James Terry Smullins, Sr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Iuka, Miss.; three sisters, Jean Brantley, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Naomi Nance and Esta Lee Sheppard, both of Flint, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Sue Till and husband, Verlon, of Wardell, Mo.; two grandchildren, James Terry Smullins, Jr., of Pleasant View, Tenn., and Bradley Wayne Smullins, of Iuka and two great-grandchildren, Zachary McTernon and Devinn Watson.

He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 31, at the Bernie Church of Christ in Bernie, Mo., with Stan Dauck officiating.

Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery at Dexter, Mo.

Family members served as pallbearers.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.
