Born Oct. 6, 1921, in Greenway, Ark., son of the late George Gatewood and Vena Fulks Gatewood, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII. He was owner of Doyne's Men's Wear in Kennett.
On Dec. 25, 1941, in Piggott, Ark., he married Lorene Travillian, who survives.
Survivors also include one son, Tony Gatewood and wife, Linda, of Kennett; one daughter, Shelia Marchbanks and husband, Gary, of Kennett; one brother, Harroll Gatewood, of Galveston, Ind.; four grandchildren, Kristi Jett and husband, Mike, of Paragould, Ark., Aaron "Doyne" Marchbanks and wife, Kelley, of Fayette, Mo., Kelly Ward and husband, J.L, of Kennett and Eli Marchbanks, of Columbia, Mo., and four great-grandchildren, J.J. Ward and Zachary Ward, of Kennett, Ainsley Jett, of Paragould and Lilly Marchbanks, of Fayette.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jewell and Leon Gatewood.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ann Mowery officiating.
Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Aaron Marchbanks, Eli Marchbanks, Don Mowery, Garvin Gatewood, J.L. Ward and Michael Travillian.
