In an effort to earn its Silver Award, the troop and its leaders contacted Kennett Street Commissioner to see what it could do to help the city, in relation to its beautification enhancements.
Leader Charolyn Hilburn placed a call to Kennett's street commissioner Randy Carter, who was very pleased to learn the girls wanted to donate some of their time to helping the city.
Hilburn and fellow leaders Terri Stone and Jackie Scoggins, said they knew with the city's revitalization process in progress, they knew their troop could be put to good use.
"It was a blessing in disguise," Carter said, knowing just what the girls could do.
With the city's limited budget, Carter said there was just enough funds to purchase and replace street signs around the city.
"We couldn't worry about the poles and posts, which looked a bit tacky with new shiny signs hanging from them," Carter said. "We were able to purchase the paint to give them a fresh coat but there wasn't enough money to get the job done," he added.
After discussing the project amongst themselves, Carter and the troop leaders put the girls to work.
At 8 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2008, Cadet Troop 141 began painting street signs around the bypass area, around the square, as well as a few other heavily traveled areas throughout the city.
Although the strong winds nearly whipped the girls to death, they were able to compliment nearly 150 street sign poles for the city of Kennett.
"The girls were enthusiastic," Carter said. "We can sure use help like that."

GREAT JOB Troop 141!! This is your community, too, and now every time you see any one of those 150 poles you know you helped make things better. Thanks to Leaders Hilburn, Stone and Scoggins and to Randy Carter for making this project possible.
