Illegal burning causes explosion

Tuesday, March 18, 2008
Assistant Fire Chief David Horton reported Monday afternoon that the Kennett Fire Department responded to an explosion at a location behind Rhews Endzone.

A resident, whose name was not provided to the newspaper, had, according to Horton, dug a pit in the yard, poured a considerable amount of gasoline in it and started a fire. The fire led to an explosion.

Officials with the Kennett Fire Station No. 2, located on First Street at Kennett, said they felt the fire station shake as a result of the explosion.

According to Horton, there were no injuries and the KFD extinguished the fire. The department issued a citation for illegal burning. A nearby resident, whose name was not available, was also issued an illegal burning citation, according to Horton.

Kennett wants the town cleaned up and this is what happens, people try and clean up and get rid of the trash and get fined for it. That is kind of double standard dont you think.
