LaVerne Wright, 84, of Campbell, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Hayti.
Born June 6, 1923, in Campbell, daughter of the late Jid and Nancy Tompkins Harper, she was a school teacher, having taught at South Canaan, near Holcomb, Mo., Qulin, Campbell and Kinyon School in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was a member of the MSTA, MRTA, CTA, PTA, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Federated Woman's Club, the Federated Garden Club, and Order of the Eastern Star, and she served on the Nutrition Board and Woodlawn Cemetery Board.
On Jan. 22, 1944, in Piggott, Ark., she married Clinton Van Wright, who preceded her in death on May 31, 1996. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Harper and Mary Ward; three brothers, Chester, J.D. and Gene Harper and one granddaughter, Dianne Lynn Eaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Ann Eaker, of Campbell; one grandson, Terry Von Eaker, of St. Peters, Mo.; two great-granddaughters, Madelynn Dianne and Megan Elizabeth Eaker, both of St. Peters; one nephew and four nieces.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Campbell with the Rev. Don Willingham officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Campbell.
