White House or Dog House

Sunday, February 10, 2008
Will Mitt Romney's dream to one day be in the White House -- as President -- come true? Who knows? Right now, I think he very well might be in the Dog House.

After the presidential primaries and caucuses on Super Tuesday, Mitt Romney said, "You know, Ann [his wife], came to me and she said, 'You know, the one thing that's clear tonight is that nothing's clear.' But I think she's wrong. One thing that's clear is this campaign is going on.

"I think -- I think -- I think there are some people who thought it was all going to be done tonight, but it's not all done tonight. We're going to keep on battling. We're going to go all the way to the convention, we're going to win this thing, and we're going to get in to the White House."

I think -- I think -- I think Mitt should never have said before millions of people, nationwide, worldwide, that his wife was wrong. Big mistake, Mitt! -- the kind that might put you in the Dog House.

To have been so smart as to become governor and solve the Olympic crisis of a few years ago, Mitt really had a lapse in judgment to say before millions of people that he thought his wife was wrong. Bad move.

The move became particularly "bad" when, on Thursday, this same man stood before the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington and said, "I must now stand aside, for our party and our country. If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror."

Give me a break! He is not standing aside for the Republican convention, nor for the country, nor because it is a time of war. He is standing aside because he was losing -- the race and his money. For Pete's sake, at least stand up and be able to tell the truth about that.

When politicians talk like that why should anyone in the country or world believe anything they say? Good grief! When something is so obvious, simply tell the truth. One will be respected for that, at least.

What is clear is this: Should Romney ever decide to run again, his advisors must insist that he never, never, never, never stand before millions of people again and say his wife is wrong.
