Mamie Barber

Mamie Lue Barber, 83, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born June 24, 1924, in Blytheville, Ark., daughter of the late Jimmie and Carrie Piggie BoBo, she was a cook for Malden Elementary School, a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Malden.

On June 10, 1939, in Caruthersville, Mo., she married Troy Barber, who preceded her in death on April 8, 1996. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Albert and Robert Barker; one daughter, Carrie Barber; two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include eight sons, Troy Barber, Jr., and Lawrence Barber, both of Champaign, Ill., Charlie Barber, of Detroit, Mich., Ozeal Barber, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Wilson, Charles, Heze and Herman Barber, all of Malden; five daughters, Josephine White, Mamie Richardson, and Sandra Dean, all of Malden, Lily Gladney, of Urbana, Ill., and Linda McMullen, of Rantoul, Ill.; 40 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11, at the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11, at the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Gene Perkins officiating.

Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery at Malden.

Landess Funeral Home of Malden is in charge of arrangements.
