Robert Aaron "Bob" Ayers, 76, of Malden, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born Jan. 5, 1931, in Bragg City, Mo., he was the son of the late Fitch Ayers and Julia M. Williams Ayers Thornton.
In 1949, he married Alberta Simpson, she died in death on Oct. 18, 1981. He married Essie Mae Thomas in 1972, and she preceded him in death on 1988. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Calvin "Billy" Thornton and one sister, Emma Ayers.
Survivors include one son, John Ayers, Sr., and wife, Pamela, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; four daughters, Ruth Ann Ayers, of Independence, Mo., Doris Jones, of Kansas City, Mo., Belinda Ayers, of Malden and Inez Jones, of Milwaukee, Wis.; five brothers, Clarence Ayers and Bobby Thornton, both of Malden, Perry Thornton, of Essex, Mo., Jessie Thornton, of Sikeston, Mo., and Jake Ayers, of Miami, Fla.; two sisters, Betty Harris, of Elkhart, Ind., and Mary Underwood, of Malden; special friend, Dorothy Moore, of Malden; 14 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Landmark Pentecostal Church
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Landmark Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Johnny Thomas officiating.
Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery at Malden.
