Carter Eugene Bailey, 79, of Westmoreland, Kan., died Tuesday, December 26, 2007 at the Westmoreland Community Care Home.

Born Oct. 30, 1928 in Caruthersville, Mo., son of Claude and Lorene Carter Bailey, he was a United States Marine and served his country from 1948 in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam until retiring in 1968 at the rank of Master Gunnery Sgt. He was also an active member of the Westmoreland VFW and American Legion and a retired police officer.

On Sept. 6, 1958 in Kingsland, Ga., he married LaVon Marie Pfrang who preceded him in death in 1984.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Claudette Boney.

Survivors include one daughter, Paula Spacil and husband, Steve, of Lees Summit, Mo.; two sons, Rick Bailey and wife, Deana, of Wichita, Kan., Jim Bailey and wife, Kim, of Wheaton, Kan.; one sister, Maxine Love of Garland, Texas; a brother, Roy Lee Bailey of Malden, Mo.; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28 at the Stewart Funeral Chapel of Westmoreland.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at the Westmoreland United Methodist Church.

Burial with military honors will follow in the Westmoreland Cemetery.
