Born Feb. 9, 1921, in Lanton, Mo., son of the late Martin C. and Mona Stephens Dawson, he was a 1941 graduate of Hayti High School, and a U.S. WWII veteran. He owned and operated Dawson Oil Company and also worked for Kelley Electric.
On Dec. 24, 1942, in Springfield, Mo., he married Esmal Alexander, who survives.
Survivors also include one son, Mark Dawson and wife, Robin, of Lee's Summitt, Mo.; two brothers, Bob Dawson and wife, Anna Beth, of Iowa Park, Texas and Neal Dawson and wife, Wanda, of Olive Branch, Miss.; one sister, Myrl Cross, of Hayti and two grandsons, Craig and Ben.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Raymond Dawson and two sisters, Beatrice Land and Bernice Dawson.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at the John W. German Funeral Home in Hayti with Jeff Thomas officiating.
Burial with military honors was in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Hayti.
Pallbearers were Ben Dawson, Keith and Wayne Alexander, Alan Taylor, Lee and Steve Cole and Wade Holland.
