Lew Hamilton, 78, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born May 15, 1929, in Owensboro, Ky., son of the late Claude Ellis and Lola Belle Anderson Hamilton, he was a lifetime retail merchant, owner of Smith's Store for Women, a Mason with the Kennett Masonic Lodge and a member of Ely Baptist Church.
On Nov. 5, 1949, he married Joann Wilson, who survives.
Survivors also include two sons, David Charles "Chuck" Hamilton, of Kennett and Boyd William Hamilton, of Norman, Okla.; one daughter, Alice Sheriann Sellers and husband, Raymond, of Overland, Mo.; eight brothers, Ellis Lee Hamilton, of Fordsville, Ky., Wallace B., Author Monroe, Claude Jr., and Gene Hamilton, all of Owensboro, James K. Hamilton, of Benton, Ky., Frankie Hamilton, of Evansville, Ind., and Erman Dean Hamilton, of Philpot, Ky.; two sisters, Sue Ellis Roscheib, of Philpot and Linda Dale Howard, of Louisport, Ky.; six grandchildren, Heather Michelle Greer, of Dexter, Mo., Brent Lewis Hamilton, of Kennett, Ashlee Marie Norris and Tiffany Jane Zimmer, both of Overland, and Hunter William Hamilton and James Alexander "Alex" Hamilton, both of Norman, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Lewis Hamilton and one brother, Ragel C. Hamilton.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., today, Friday, Dec. 7, at the Ely Baptist Church in Kennett with the Rev. Bud Evans officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers were Josh Norris, Verne Felton, Gary, Brent, Gene and Claude Junior Hamilton.
McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.
