Ray Alton Hilliard, 73, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, Mo.

Born Jan. 18, 1934, in Pace, Fla., son of the late Lee Vernon and Corrine Plant Hilliard, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, and he was a Mason.. He was a postmaster in Florida and he worked with upholstery and making cabinets in Caruthersville, Mo.

On Feb. 28, 1968, in Blytheville, Ark., he married Mary Fran Carter, who survives.

Survivors also include two children, Dawne R. Henry and Scott K. Henley; two sisters, Kathleen Hill and Julie Rupert; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 13, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville.
