For those lively and spirited individuals in the community who want to support and cheer on a good cause, Relay for Life of Dunklin County has just the high-energy event for you.

To initiate the community's involvement in the annual American Cancer Society (ACS) sponsored event that raises awareness and money for cancer research, education, prevention, advocacy, treatment, and patient services, a Pep Rally-themed kick-off celebration has been planned to take place at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the old Armory Building at the Kennett Middle School campus.

According to this year's Chairperson, Autumn Burk, the kick-off event will serve as a time in which guests can learn more about Relay for Life as a whole, as well as, upcoming activities and fundraisers.

"Kick-off will likewise be a time in which local Relay for Life teams can pick up team captain packets and supplies. Also, those individuals, businesses, churches, and civic organizations who are not yet involved in the event but would like to be can sign up to contribute to this worthy local and national cause," Burk said.

The American Cancer Society is currently seeking teams for the Relay for Life of Dunklin County.

Relay is the American Cancer Society's national signature fundraising activity, in which teams gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation.

The event unites friends, families, businesses, schools, churches, and the community... people from literally all walk of life.

Teams seek sponsorship prior to the Relay and join in the overall goal of supporting a cure for cancer. Teams for Relay for Life are encouraged to sign up early for the annual event.

"By organizing early, teams have more time to more actively participate and fundraise for the cause prior to the actual event," explained Burk.

In addition to the vast cancer-related services Relay supports, the event also serves as a time in which the community can honor cancer survivors, current cancer patients and their caregivers, as well as pay tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer.

This year's kick-off will be very energetic and exciting. The pep-assembly theme will feature a special survivor speaker, a luminaria ceremony, food, giveaways, door prizes, fun, and inspiring presentations.

Both the kick-off and Relay for Life event are free to the public and everyone in Dunklin County is invited and encouraged to attend.
