Velma Austin, 88, of Douglasville, Ga., formerly of Kennett, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, Ga.
Born Sept. 18, 1918, in Cooter, Mo., daughter of the late Joe Richard and Mary Elizabeth Orr Cox, she was a homemaker and a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Kennett.
On Sept. 29, 1934, in Kennett, she married Benjamin Willie Austin, who preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1995. She was also preceded in death by four daughters, Pauline and Corine Austin, Dorothea Green and Mae Cooley and two sons, James Richard and Nathaniel Austin.
Survivors include four sons, Jimmy Austin and O'Neal Austin and wife, Donna, all of Kennett, Lawrence Austin and wife, Mary, of Kansas City, Mo., and Michael Austin and wife, Ella, of Woodbridge, Va.; four daughters, Enna Hudson and husband, Sam, of Kennett, Joyce Ann Austin, of Malden, Mo., Gloria Embery, of Springfield, Mo., and Gaylon Brevard, of Douglasville; 44 grandchildren; 60 great-granddchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Williams and Johnny Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers are great-grandsons, Marcus and Demetrius McBride, Thomas Earl Green, Jr., Franklin and Ricky Thompson and Michael and Steven Green.
Honorary pallbearers are grandsons, Billy Cooley, Ben Austin, Fitzgerald and Mark Thompson and Pharnell Pittman.
