Joe "Big Joe" Joyner, 68, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at his residence.
Born Nov. 6, 1938, in Gideon, Mo., son of the late Archie and Myrtle Masters Joyner, he was a 1956 graduate of Wardell High School, owned and operated Big Joe's Downtown Service Center in Caruthersville and attended the First Assembly of God Church in Caruthersville. He served on the Hayti Fire Department, the Hayti Police Department, served as Pemiscot County coroner and was a dispatcher for the Sheriffs Department.
On Sept. 22, 1959, in Hayti, Mo., he married Joyce Lorene Fry, who survives.
Survivors also include one daughter, Cindy Riggs, of Caruthersville; one brother, Billy Joe Joyner, of Doniphan, Mo.; one sister, Helen Louis Benson, of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Summer and Joseph Joyner, Josh and Austin Riggs and Trista Russell and five great-grandchildren, Matthew Riggs, Kelley and Brookley Joyner, Hailey and Terry Russell.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the First Assembly of God Church in Caruthersville with the Rev. Rod Titus officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Hayti.
Pallbearers were Josh, Austin and Gary Riggs, Joseph Joyner and Randy and Jody Luye
John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
