Irene Watkins Alford, 92, of Senath, Mo., formerly of Hayti, Mo., died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born March 18, 1915, in Clarkton, Mo., daughter of the late Wesley and Alta Davis Sanders, she was a cook at Gwin's Cafe, Curtis Cafe, Angelo's Pig Stand and Circle Inn all in Hayti. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hayti.
In 1939, in Hayti, she married William "Bill" Alford, who preceded her in death in 1975. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Sanders and Wesley Sanders, Jr.; a half-sister, Essie Smith and one grandson, Larry Starkey.
Survivors include one son, Charles Edward Watkins and wife, Kelley, of Senath, Mo.; one daughter, Myrleen Watkins Starkey, of Senath; five grandchildren, Charles Walter Starkey, of Waterloo, Ill., Calvin Watkins, of Yuma, Ariz., Clint Watkins and Theresa Watkins Anderson, both of Senath and Steve Starkey, of Houston, Texas; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., today, Thursday, June 21, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Bro. Doug Wahls officiating.
Burial was in the McGrew Cemetery at Senath.
Pallbearers were Charles "Butch" Starkey, Clint Watkins, Calvin Oatsvall, Gaylon Anderson, Tim Walsh and Steve Starkey.
Honorary pallbearers were Richard Ashbaugh, Cody Anderson, Carlis Evans and Sean Watkins.
