A new exhibit entitled Earthquake! will open at the Arkansas State University Museum in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Thursday, June 21 from 1- 4 p.m. This grand opening is free and open to the public.

The Earthquake! exhibit includes the history and science of the New Madrid Seismic Zone and provides hints on earthquake readiness.

Visitors can jump to make the seismic sensor register waves on a seismograph, make block buildings that tumble on the shake table, interact with a computer kiosk, and more. Earthquake readiness expert Danny Honnoll will present an earthquake safety program, and hand-outs will be available.

The Jonesboro Fire Department, along with Myra Jane Biggers from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, will be on hand at the opening ceremonies, which will include a film, ribbon cutting, prizes, and refreshments.

Summer hours for the Museum are Tuesday -- Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday -- Sunday from 1-5 p.m. The Museum will be closed on Mondays beginning July 1. For more information about Earthquake! or the ASU Museum, contact Lenore Shoults at (870) 213-8380.
