John Lester VanAusdall, Jr., 87, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Born March 12, 1920, in Caruthersville, son of the late John Lester VanAusdall, Sr., and Christine Rogers VanAusdall, he was a graduate of Caruthersville High School and Vanderbilt University and Harvard Law School and he owned a Ford Dealership in Caruthersville. He was chairman of the board for the First State Bank and Trust Company, a member of the Pemiscot County Historical Society, the Caruthersville Humane Society and he attended the First Presbyterian Church. He had served on the Caruthersville Public Library Board and established the VanAusdall Family Education Scholarship Fund.
Survivors include five double first cousins, Kirby and Rogers VanAusdall and Emma Staten Tipton, all of Caruthersville, Rice Lee VanAusdall, of Harrisburg, Ark., and Bunny Randolph, of Winston Salem, N.C.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Thursday, June 7, at the First Presbyterian Church in Caruthersville with the Rev. Kirwin Stewart and Rev. Dr. Paul Currie officiating.
Burial was in the Little Prairie Cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Dave Grundfest IV, Rice Lee VanAusdall III, Ted, Jacob and Luke S. VanAusdall and Grant A. Heflin.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Terry Swinger, Rev. Dwight Chapman, Troma Jones, Jiggs Dodd, Duane Michie, Byron Luber and Kyle Kersey.
H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.
