Alvin C. Dunavant, 91, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at McKenzie Regional Hospital in McKenzie, Tenn.
Born Feb. 13, 1916, in Pemiscot County, Mo., son of the late Josie Barnes and Robert Lee Dunavnat, Sr., he was a policeman, a farmer and was employed at Sunkist Cracker Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville.
On Jan. 23, 1937, in Caruthersville, he married Marie Holt, who preceded him in death on July 5, 2006. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Robert Jr., Joe B., Marion, John, and George and two sisters, Gladys Jones and Grace Pruiett.
Survivors include one brother, Hubert Dunavant, of Jonesboro, Ark., and one sister, Janice Disbennett, of San Antonio, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 1, at the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville with Dr. James Adams and the Rev. John Earl Dunavant officiating.
Burial was in the Little Prairie Cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Keith Jean, Troma Jones, Jim Atchison, Baughn Merideth, Tommy Lynn Crowe, Mike Avis, Earl Bullington, John Sellare, Chuck Manz, James Ralph Murphy, Roger Medlin, Bill Jean, Billy Dodd, Calvin House, Charles Long, John Alford, Byron Luber, Denny Merideth, Louis Hardesty and Tommy Greenwell.
John W. German Funeral Home in Hayti, Mo., was in charge of arrangements.
