Born July 27, 1926, in Little Rock, Ark., daughter of the late Darnell and Nollie Mae Clark Nelson, she was a member of the Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church in Malden.
On March 24, 1953, in Stoddard County, Mo., she married Robert Lee Smith, who preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1995. She was also preceded in death by one son, Eugene Smith; one daughter, Beverly Smith and four brothers, L.C. and Henry B. Nelson, Lee Reepers and Lindell Moore.
Survivors include seven sons, Charles Pulliam and wife, Kim, Willie Pulliam and wife, Ada and Ronald Smith, all of Indianapolis, Ind., Gary Hill, of Terre Haute, Ind., Robert Smith, Jr., and wife, Linda, of Poplar Bluff, Dale Smith and wife, Janice, of Danville, Ill., and Harolod Smith, of Malden; five daughters, Betty Smith, of Champaign, Ill., Barbara Versie and husband, Joe, of Jonesboro, Ark., Patricia Triplett, of Chicago, Ill., Edna Winbush and husband, Keith, of Tacoma, Wash., and Nollie "Cookie" Smith, of Richmond, Va.; four brothers, Darrell W. Nelson, of Sikeston, Mo., Lee Nelson, of Indianapolis, Ind., Johnson Nelson, of Peoria, Ill., and Dale Nelson, of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Ophelia Nelson, of Dalton, Ill.; 41 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 31, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 31, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Otis Hawes and Gene Perkins officiating.
Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery at Malden.
