Calvin proudly served his country in World War II, flying over 30 missions in a B-17 bomber. As a Radio Operator and Waist Gunner, Calvin bravely flew one of his first missions over Berlin, Germany and continued his service in missions over France and Austria. He was a longtime member of the American Legion. As a strong Christian, Calvin served the First Baptist Church of Gideon for many decades as a Deacon and as the song leader, including singing at many revivals. He was also a guiding force in the Gideon community, serving as Postmaster for many years, on the School Board, Master of Ceremonies for the Labor Day reunions and also the Alumni Association. Calvin was loyal, strong, independent and intelligent. He truly loved music and all of nature. He will be fondly remembered and lovingly missed.
