Otis Mitchell, Sr.

Otis T. Mitchell, Sr., 87, of Kennett, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Born Nov. 5, 1919, in Wattensaw, Ark., son of the late Barney and Alice Beard Mitchell, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII and he owned and operated Kennett Tire and Tread Company and retired in 1985 as the street commissioner for the City of Kennett. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kennett, VFW Post No. 5443 and the Kennett Masonic Lodge No. 68 as a 32nd Degree Mason.

On April 2, 1944, in Lonoke, Ark., he married Eloise Newberry, who preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 1997. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, William "Bill", Guy and Ray B. Mitchell and two sisters, Hazel Tedford and Lola Jarrett.

Survivors include one son, Otis T. Mitchell, Jr., and wife, Karen, of Corona Delmar, Calif.; two daughters, Alice Raines and husband, John David, of Senath, Mo., and Roberta Michelson and husband, Jim, of Overland Park, Kan.; one sister, Melba Lilly, of Lonoke; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 10, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 10, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Jansson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers are John Mitchell Raines, John Austin Raines, Tennyson Mitchell, Chandler Mitchell, Alex Mitchell and Spencer Michelson.
