James Clinton Howell, 86, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti, Mo.

Born April 18, 1920, in Cottonwood Point, Mo., son of the late Luther Alfred and Mary Ethyl Godfrey Howell, he was a U.S. Army veteran and received two Bronze Stars. He was employed by Ladish Company of Cudahy, Wis., and was a member of the V.F.W. and Temple Baptist Church.

On June 29, 1944, in Piggott, Ark., he married Clara Thomason, who preceded him in death on April 27, 1977. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Grace Beatrice Nichols.

Survivors include one daughter, Janice Robinson, of Caruthersville, Mo.; one brother, Luther Alfred Howell, Jr., of Union City, Tenn.; two sisters, Virginia Loraine Franklin, of Tiptonville, Tenn., and Mary Lee Renfro, of Hermitage, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Morgan Treece and Micalan Anderson, both of Caruthersville and Micehlle Gardner, of Dunmor, Ky.; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Temple Baptist Church in Caruthersville with the Rev. Jim Pilcher officiating.

Burial was in the Little Prairie Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charles Stewart, Olin Parks, Billy Ray Becker, Duyle W. Cronan, Joe VanCleve and Jim Anderson.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangments.
