Too serious

Sunday, January 14, 2007
There will always be those who think more of themselves than they should. Consequently, those kinds of folks demean others, or attempt to, through various expressions.

You've seen those kinds of people, haven't you. They may walk around with their chests puffed out. They may walk around with their noses stuck up. They may even use physical dominance or violence against a weaker person -- and this makes them "feel good" about themselves?

For those who walk around with their chests puffed out, there are unexpected bumps in life. Since those folks cannot see the ground where they should be walking, those little bumps can create havoc.

It is funny to see that kind of person stumble, don't you think? It's like the Creator is saying, "Here's your sign. Do not think more of yourself than you ought!"

For those who walk around with their noses stuck up in the air, there are unexpected "thunderstorms." Sometimes these storms take the shape of a world, once thought to be secure and safe from the "unfortunate things that affect everyone else but not me," tumbling apart. Seeing this may not be too funny and may even be sad. It's like the Creator is saying, "You will grow through conflict; there is no other way to grow."

And for those who like to attempt to use physical dominance or violence, there is always someone else who is physically stronger. Forgive me if I think seeing that type of person brought down a notch or two is funny.

There are signs that you may be taking yourself too seriously. If you talk about yourself in the third person, you may be taking yourself too seriously. If you engage in self-admiring confessionals, you may be taking yourself too seriously. If you find yourself attempting to impress others who may be listening to your cell phone conversations, you may be taking yourself too seriously. If you have to make one cell phone call after another while standing in line because those you are talking to simply cannot go more than five minutes without hearing from you, you may be taking yourself too seriously. If you have the tendency to talk about all your accomplishments at work, you may be taking yourself too seriously. Finally, if you find impossible slowing down to stop and smell the roses, you may be taking yourself too seriously.

Advice: Get over yourself. You are not as important as you think! And laugh at yourself every once in a while because the Creator is sure to, sooner or later, let you know that you may be taking yourself way too seriously!
