Elzie Quinn

Elzie Quinn, 89, of Hayti, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.

Born July 27, 1917, in Pemiscot County, Mo., son of the late Joseph and Pearl Hartwell Quinn, he was a farmer, school bus driver, commercial fisherman and owner/operator of a grocery store. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Hayti.

On Oct. 9, 1937, in Portageville, Mo., he married Hazel Pauline Pollard, who preceded him in death on April 20, 1992. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Willard Quinn; three sisters, Glendola Wyn, Elsie Graham and Elenora Sherrod and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include six children, Joan Gaines and Rodney Quinn and wife, Rhonda, all of Wardell, Mo., Elzie Quinn, Jr., and wife, Connie, of Visalia, Calif., Paul Quinn and wife, Margie, of Hayti, Bill Quinn and wife, Marilyn, of Steele, Mo., and Bobby Quinn and wife, Vickie, of Newbern, Tenn.; one sister, Juanita Evans, of Kennett; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Bro. Dwayne Roberts officiating.

Burial was in the Dry Bayou Cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were grandsons, David, Timothy, Steven, Chris and Cody Quinn and Ricky Nobles.

Honorary pallbearer was Sherman Manley.
