Cleothes "Pug" Smith, 69, of Wardell, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center in Dyersburg, Tenn.
Born July 11, 1937, in Holland, Mo., son of the late William and Susie Crowley, he was a deputy sheriff and a member of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Homestown.
On May 4, 1981, in Pemiscot County, Mo., he married Lois Whitaker, who survives.
Survivors also include 10 children, Sherry Smith, of Lansing, Mich., Tara Smith, of Wardell, Velma Smith Shannon and husband, Oscar, of Sikeston, Mo., Diane Smith, of Hardenville, Mo., Brenda Smith and Connie Hubbert Gray and husband, Henry, all of St. Louis, Mo., Cleothes Smith, Jr., and wife, Glenda and Randy Smith and wife, Barbara, all of Aurora, Colo., Slandley Smith, of Howardville, Mo., and Charles Jones and wife, Joan, of Baltimore, Md.; one step-daughter, Latrica Lee, of Lansing, Mich.; seven brothers, Donald Smith and wife, Bobbie, of Hardenville, Issac Smith and wife, Bettye, of Cleveland, Ohio, Billy Smith and wife, Corla and Ruben Smith, all of Columbia, Mo., Freddie Smith and wife, Bula, of Homestown, Larry Smith and wife, Marylin, of Steele, Mo., and James Smith and wife, Mary, of Flint, Mich.; four sisters, Dorothy Portwood, of Milwaukee, Wis., Shirley Barbie and husband, Pete, of St. Louis and Carolyn Higgs and husband, Floyd and Rae Higgs and husband, Leonard, all of Malden; 35 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Loretta Reed, Floree Hill and Cecia Mae Smith and two brothers, William Smith, Jr., and Sammie Lee Smith.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., today, Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Hayti, Mo. with the Rev. Emmauel Lofton officiating.
Burial was in the Homestown Cemetery.
Bradshaw Funeral Home of Wardell was in charge of arrangements.
