Thelma Nadine Payne, 84, of Gideon, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Gideon Care Center.

Born Sept. 20, 1922, in Malden, Mo., daughter of the late Jim Lee and Martha Anos Harmon Poole, she was city clerk in Clarkton, Mo., and a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Gideon.

On Feb. 3, 1940, in Gideon, she married Charlie Merle Payne, who preceded her in death on July 6, 2005. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Luther and Joyce Poole and four sisters, Lilly Felker, Beulah Adams, Virgie Fletcher and Myra Meacham.

Survivors include four daughters, Mona Lemings and husband, Dub, of Benicia, Calif., Sharon Bradley, of Rogers, Ark., Gayle Balentine and husband, David, and June Payne, all of Murray, Ky.; one son, Kevin Payne and wife, Teresa, of Malden, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Yolanda and Dubbie Lemings, of Martinez, Calif., Jeff Bradley, of Chesterfield, Mo., Jason Bradley, of Camdenton, Mo., Angel Renick, of Louisville, Ky., Melissa Layton, of Brentwood, Tenn., Shane Smith, of Fremont, Calif., Shawnda Smith, of Alpharette, Ga., and Summer and Zech Payne, both of Malden and 10 great-grandchildren, Ryan Lemings, of Concord, Calif., Ethan and Emma Bradley, both of Chesterfield, Craigon and Jacie Bradley, both of Camdenton, Katherine, Audrey and Chase Renick, all of Louisville and Will and Olivia Layton, both of Brentwood.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., today, Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Richard Blagg and Gerald Berger officiating.

Burial was in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery at Clarkton, Mo.
