Charles Nelson, 57, of Hayti, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at the hospital at Hayti.
Born Aug. 12, 1949, at Hermondale, Mo., he was the son of the late S. D. and Johnnie B. Madden Nelson. He was a member of the Full Gospel Evangelistic Church at Hayti, he was a former boxer in the Golden Gloves Association, and he retired from Osceola Products, Inc. at Kennett, Mo.
He was married to Mable Nelson of Hayti. Other survivors include one daughter, Erica Nelson, of Hayti; one son, Steven Cox of Newport, Ark.; five stepdaughters, Alice Brown, Josephine Page, and Carolyn Covington, all of Hayti, Flecia Covington, of Kansas City, Mo., and Deliah Linter and husband, Jerry, of Farmington, Mo.; four stepsons, Henry Covington, Ralph Covington and wife, Angela, of Kansas City, Eddie Covington and David Covington and wife, Lenora, of Hayti; four brothers, L.C. Nelson of Derring, Mo., Albert Williams and wife, Carrie, of Saginaw, Mich., Alton Nelson, of Buffalo, N.Y., and Roscoe Nelson of Berkley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one brother, J.B. Nelson, and one sister, Annistine Jones.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at the Cedar Street Baptist Church at Hayti, with Elder David Covington officiating.
Burial followed at the Evergreen Cemetery at Hayti.
Pallbearers were L.C. Nelson Jr., Elic Peel, Torey Nelson, Justin Borders, Terrell Townsend, and William Townson.
Honorary pallbearers were Henry Covington, David Covington, Eddie Covington, Ralph Covington, L.C. Nelson, Albert Williams, Roscoe Nelson, and Alton Nelson.
The John W. German Funeral Home at Hayti was in charge of the arrangements.
