Harvey Baker, 85, of Dexter, Mo., formerly of Clarkton, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

Born May 17, 1921, in Atkins, Ark., son of the late Ben and Mattie Tyler Baker, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bernie, Mo., and the Poplar Bluff American Legion.

On July 2, 1938, in Lepanto, Ark., he married Gladys "Peggy" Beasley, who preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 2003. He was also preceded in death by one son, Bobby Wayne Baker; two brothers, Mervin and Bill Baker and two sisters, Phronie Tomlinson and Adeline Baker.

Survivors include one son, Wayman Baker and wife, Kristi, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two daughters, Caremelita Moyse, of St. Louis, Mo., and Carolyn Lemings and husband, Doyle, of Dexter; one sister, Jan Cradduck, of Clarkton; one brother, Gwindon Baker, of Sebastopol, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., today, Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 8, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Earnest Puckett and Susan Marner-Sides officiating.

Burial with military rites will follow in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton.
