Ila Christine Swinford, 79, of Malden, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at Poplar Bluff Regional Healthcare in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Born Aug. 24, 1926, in Sprucepine, Ala., daughter of the late McKinley and Ila Whitfield Carter, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
On Feb. 6, 1949, in Tallapoosa, Mo., she married Harmon L. Swinford, who preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 1989. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sheila Swinford; two sons, Mike and Dale Swinford; four sisters, Grace Redding, Ann Swinford, Ruby Fulk and Margaret Jeffords; two brothers, Ralph and Melton Carter and one grandson, Joey Redding.
Survivors include five daughters, Barbara Redding, of Bragg City, Mo., Sue Miller, of Sikeston, Mo., Hope Hatton, of Malden, Judy Swinford, of Benld, Ill., and Carol Swinford, of Campbell, Mo.; five sons, Eugene Carter, of Poplar Bluff, Harold and James Swinford, both of Hartsburg, Ill., Rickey Swinford, of Malden and Mark Swinford, of Licking, Mo.; one step-son, Dwight Pavy, of Malden; 37 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Fowler officiating.
Burial will follow in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton, Mo.
