Violet Joy Gray Elder, 90, of Malden, Mo., died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Born Oct. 21, 1915, in Zalma, Mo., daughter of the late Emanuel and Ada Eaker Gaither, she was owner/operator of Violet's Restaurant and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Malden.
On Sept. 19, 1936, she married Robert Gray, who preceded her in death on July 16, 1982. She later married William Van Elder on Dec. 30, 1986 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1991. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Shaw and husband, Bob , of Malden; one son, Robbie Gray and wife, Virginia, of Risco, Mo.; one sister, Comfort Cooper, of Marble Hill, Mo.; one brother, Lester Gaither, of St. Louis, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., Sunday, July 30, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 31, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Bill Jackson and Rev. Mark Pickard officiating.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.
