Mary Francis Hopke, 96, of Caruthersville, Mo., died on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at the Caruthersville Nursing Center.
Born Feb. 6, 1910, at Caruthersville, daughter of the late John William Sawyer, Sr. and Maysel Wilks Sawyer. She attended Caruthersville schools, graduating in 1927 and attended the University of Missouri, graduating with a B.S. in education- public school music. She was a member of the Music and Education Honorary Sorority, PEO, SEMO Club, and Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and was organist for the church for 60 years.
On Nov. 30, 1933 at Caruthersville, she was united in marriage to Jack Alonzo Hopke. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Winkler of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Kathy Kelly and husband, Jack, of Savannah, Ga.; two grandchildren, Damon Kelly of Acworth, Ga., and Adrienne Allen of Brookfield, Wis.
She was preceded in death by one brother, John William Sawyer, Jr., and wife, Margaret.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 15 at the Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church at Caruthersville with Rev. Dwight Chapman officiating.
Burial was in the Little Prairie Cemetery at Caruthersville.
Pallbearers were Carl Jiggs Dodd, Edwin Childers, Jr., Jack Kelly and Joe Parkinson.
The H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of the services.
