Nelldean Akers, 81, of Piggott, Ark., formerly of Kennett, Mo., died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Piggott.
Born Dec. 21, 1924, at Datto, Ark., daughter of the late Randall and Ora Henderson Smith, she was a sales clerk at Hamra Department Store and a checker for several Kennett grocery stores. She was a member of the Emmanual Baptist Church in Piggott and a member of the VFW and DAV Ladies Auxiliary in Kennett.
On Nov. 1, 1941, in Kennett, she married Pleas "P.H." Henderson Akers, who preceded her in death on April 5, 2004. She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Akers and one grandson, Scot Akers.
Survivors include three sons, Johnny Akers and wife, Karen, of San Bernardino, Calif., David Akers and wife, Becky, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Michael Akers and wife, Jacy, of Paragould, Ark.; two daughters, Marilyn Low and husband, Myron, of Piggott and Brenda Dicus and husband, James, of Kennett; one brother, Glenn Smith, of Phoenix; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Akers, of Memphis, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., today, Tuesday, June 27, at the Emmanual Baptist Church in Piggott with the Revs. Kim Bridges and Kevin Murray officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.
McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett was in charge of arrangements.
