Lela Baird, 87, of Clarkton, Mo., died Monday, June 12, 2006, at Gideon Care Center in Gideon, Mo.
Born May 30, 1919, in Dora, Mo., daughter of the late John Dan and Isabelle Stout White, she was a teacher, a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
On March 17, 1946, in Paragould, Ark., she married Wilford Thomas Baird, who preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1999. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Farice, Flay, Joe, Gordon, L.Z., Chester and Enis White and four sisters, Lola Henry, Lala Dixon, and Purnie and Lila White.
Survivors include one son, Dan Baird and wife, Debbie, of Holcomb, Mo.; one daughter, Faye Horton, of Clarkton; one sister, Pearl Nuckles and husband, John, of Swartz Creek, Mich., and four grandchildren, Rita Horton, of Jonesboro, Ark., Brian Baird, of Holcomb, Jason Horton, of Huntington, W.V., and Kristin Peachey, of Jackson, Tenn.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., today, Wednesday, June 14, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 15, at the Stanfield Missionary Baptist Church in Clarkton with the Rev. Richard Triplett officiating.
Burial will follow in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton.
