James Storey, 88, of Kennett, died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at NEA Medical Center at Jonesboro, Ark.

Born Oct. 31, 1917 at Senath, Mo., a son of the late Otis Henry and Huldah Baird Storey, he served in the Army from January 1942 until February 1962. He retired as a Lt. Colonel. He served with the 99th Division in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He served with the 2nd and 3rd Divisions in Korea. He was awarded a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, a campaign medal for Europe for four campaigns and campaign ribbons for Korea. He was a member of First Christian Church.

On Jan. 11, 1946 he married Velma Stotts who survives.

Other survivors include one son, Jim Storey and wife, Maribeth, of Kennett; two grandsons, Ryan Storey and wife, Shauna, and Heath Storey.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at First Christian Church with the Rev. Vaughn Wright officiating.

Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers were active military.

Honorary pallbearers was the First Christian Church Board.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund.

McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett was in charge of services.
