The Kennett City Council Tuesday by recommendation of its police committee promoted Kennett Police Department Sgt. Tim Trowbridge to the rank of Detective Lieutenant.

Trowbridge, 33, a 13-year veteran of the force, began his career as a desk officer and dispatcher, then worked his way through the ranks to Corporal in 2000 and Sergeant in 2002. Trowbridge was the lead investigator in a succcessful Internet sexual predator sting at Kennett.

A lifelong Kennett resident and graduate of Kennett High School, Trowbridge, along with Detective Sgt. Johnny Dennis, make up the force's Criminal Investigations Division, Trowbridge said Thursday.

"I'm still working narcotics in Kennett," Trowbridge said. "I'm still attached to the Bootheel Drug Task Force, and I'm still team leader of the Kennett Special Response Team.

"When I first started on the task force, we saw a lot of crack cocaine here in Kennett," the lieutenant added. "It wore us out. Then we had a spurt there of lots and lots of methamphetamine."

These days, marijuana and prescription drug abuse investigations keep Trowbridge busier than he'd like to admit, he said.

"We're seeing increases in prescription drug abuse among school-age kids and adults, too," Trowbridge said. "Lots of opiates.

"We're coming into contact with those kinds of drugs more and more," he added.

Trowbridge, who is married and the father of three, attended the University of Missouri at Columbia and is enrolled at Three Rivers Community College, where he seeks a psychology degree, he said.

"I love Kennett," he said. "It's my hometown.

"I intend to stay here and finish my career," he said. "I'm proud of my family, my city and our police force. I think we do a good job here. I hope our community does, too."
