Born Aug. 16, 1920, in Westport, Tenn., son of the late Talbert Eugene and Ideal Williams Cross, he was a WWII veteran, where he received an Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, World War II Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a farmer, former custodian of the Hayti Methodist Church and a member of the Baptist Church. On Oct. 29, 1938, in Stanley, Mo., he married Christine Treece, who survives.
Survivors also include one son, Vernon Ray Cross and wife, Jeannie, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; three brothers, B.A. Cross, of Hayti, Mack Cross, of Portageville, Mo., and Gene Cross, of Jackson, Mo.; three grandchildren, Todd Luster, of Crossville, Tenn., Nikki Crosnoe, of Cape Girardeau and Joshua Cross, of Albemarle, N.C.. and three great-grandsons, Cooper, Gunner and Carter Crosnoe, all of Cape Girardeau.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Dr. Mike Melton officiating.
Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Hayti.
Pallbearers were W.T. Davidson, Bob Inmon, Harley Thornton, Phil Bowen, Milford Chism and Martin Ray.
