Virgil Leon Powell, 88, of Malden, Mo., died Thursday, April 6, 2006, at Beverly Health and Rehab at Malden.

Born July 28, 1917, at Peoria, Ill., a son of the late Lee and Clara Armstrong Powell, he was a Mason, Sunday School teacher, past member of the Malden Board of Public Works, Malden Lions Club Citizen of the Year, retired from Powell Supply and a member of First United Methodist Church of Malden. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

On October 8, 1938 at Caruthersville, Mo. he married Nell D. Downing who survives.

Other survivors include one son, Sam Powell of Malden: one sister Francis Thompson of Memphis, Tenn., one grandson, Sam Powell of Dexter, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Andy and Caroline Goessling of Dexter and Emma Powell of Dexter.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Powell and one granddaughter, Lisa Goessling.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 10, Bradshaw Funeral Home until time of services at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bob McNabb officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.
