Jimmy Joe South, 68, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Born Dec. 8, 1937, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., son of the late Joe and Aline Miller South, he was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was employed at Atmos Energy and was a member of the First Christian Church.

On Aug. 11, 1956, in Phoenix, Ariz., he married Melissa Jane Magness who survives.

Survivors also include one son, Byron South, of Stuttgart, Ark.; two daughters, Cindy Conway, of Caruthersville and Patricia Storf and husband, Andrew, of Blytheville, Ark.; one sister, Judy Moore, of Dallas, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Melissa, Jennifer, Rebecca, Christina, Sarah, Ali, Beth, Joseph, Christopher, Mikaya, Scotlyn and Scotty and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 28, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Mike Gardner officiating.

Burial was in the Maple Cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Joey Ledford, Denny Baird, Ricky Bell, Marty Metzger, Jim Young, J.T. Spicer, Dale Bullington, Jerry Strawn and Bubby Henso
